Notification of Pregnancy and Maternal and Child Health Handbook

When you became pregnant, please submit the notification af pregnancy to the Health Section. You will receive the Mother and Child Health Bag which contains the Maternal and Child Health Handbook, a handbook on pregnancy, childbirth and child rearing, and two sheets of the prenatal health checkup form. Including urinalysis, anemia, and blood pressure, this subsidized health checkup is administered at medical institutions designated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The Maternal and Child Health Handbook will be used until the child enrolls in elementary school.

There are prenatal classes for pregnant women concerning pregnancy, childbirth and child rearing.

Dental Checkup for Young children (Health Section)

Dental checkups as well as helpful tips, instruction and consultation for cavity-prevention during young children are provided. Location: Ikiiki Plaza 2F

General Health Checkups for 18 Months-Old Infants (Health Section)

In addition to general health check ups for physical and mental development, child-rearing guidance and consultations concerning life style matters and nutrition are also offered.

Health checkups are provided for children who have reached three years of age.

Immunizations

Higashi-Murayama City provides the following immunizations free of charge for individual and group immunizations. Individual immunizations are given at designated medical facilities with a designated preliminary examination card. The schedules of group immunizations (time and place) are announced in the city newsletter (in Japanese). Parents of eligible children are also informed by the City Office.

Diphtheria, Pertussis and Tetanus Combined (DPT)

First Time, First Term

Notification: Will be notified the month after an infant reaches six months
Method: Three times with intervals of 3 to 8 weeks between, for infants from 3 up to 89 months old

First Term Booster

Method: Once within 12 to 18 weeks after Third Time, First Term (up until an infant is 89 months old

Diphtheria and Tetanus Combined (DT)

Second Term

Notification: Will be notified at the sixth grade of elementary school Method: Once during 11 up to 12 years old

Measles

Notification: Will be notified the month after an infant has reached 12 months old Method: Once during 12 up to 89 months old

Rubella

Children born on October 1, 1987 or before

Notification: Will be notified at second grade of junior high school Method: Once during 12 up to 15 years old

Children born on October 2, 1987 or after

Notification: Will be notified the month after an infant has reached 12 months old Method: Omce during 12 up to 89 months old

Japanese Encephalitis: Not available

First Term

Notification: Will be notified the month after child's 3rd birthday Method: Twice with an interval of 1 to 4 w,eeks between the first and second time (First Term) First Time Booster will be taken once about a year after the First Time vaccinations

Second Term

Notification: Will be notified at fourth grade of elementary school Method: Once during 9 up to 12 years old


Group Immunization

BCG Vaccines

Date: twice a month 
Notification: Will be notified the month before the intended date with the notice of ggeneral medical checkups for 3 to 4 month-old babies.h Method: BCG vaccines are taken.

Polio (OPCV)

Financial Assistance for Child-rearing and Medical Expenses for Infants

City provides financial assistance for child-rearing and medical expenses for infants. Parent who lives in Higashimurayama and has the foreign resistration card (except the status of "Short Stay" ) could apply. For more details, contact Kosodate suishin-ka (Child-rearing Section).

Child care centers (Hoikuen)

Hoikuen is designed for pre-school children including newborn babies (2 or more months old) whose parents (legal guardians) cannot care for them during the day because of work or illness. There are eight city-managed and five private Hoikuen. Applications for April enrollment are accepted from early November of the preceding year. However, applications for vacancies are accepted at any time.

Special Nursery Service to Support Child-rearing Extended Hours of Hoikuen

This service offers nursery from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in order to meet the needs of parents who commute to work.


Regulations of the Temporary Child Care Service

1. What is the temporary child care service?

When a parent(s) or the guardian(s) is (are) having difficulties to take a good care of the child at his/her house due to the emergency or temporary circumstances such as employment, taking courses in higher education or a vocational training as well as sickness or hospitalization of the caregiver, some child care centers (hoikuen) in our city will provide the temporary day care service.

2. Who will be eligible for the service?

From a 3 months old infant through 5 years old preschooler who is living in Higashimurayama city, and is not required any medical support or conditions.

3. Service hours and conditions:

Pre-registration is required. Call directly a designated hoikuen and ask for more details.(Japanese only)

Service hours: 8:30 am - 5 pm only during the center is open.
The service limits within 15 days per application except for an urgent case.
Service Fees: 1500 yen within 4 hours, 2500 yen if extends over 4 hours.
*If you have been receiving social welfare support or declared in last year as the tax free house hold, the fee will be waved.
